2016 VW Golf R Facelift: Going Back In Time?

The last Beijing Auto Show played host to many interesting concepts and among them is the Volkswagen Golf R. If you’re a fan of the sports hatch, then you must revisit the motoring event as VW has confirmed yesterday that the future Golf R Facelift is based on the study.

The facelift model is said to make its debut next year and since it will be like the concept model, the future Golf R will be exhibiting a modern vintage look. In detail, VW revealed that the Golf R Facelift will be made to look like the legendary 1989 Rally Golf.

As such, fans can expect the vehicle to wear a lemon yellow paintjob with silver for its interior. While no details are shared on the performance front, the Golf R Facelift is tipped to be built on the Haldex 5 platform and driven on the AWD system.

There is also going to be a 292hp 2.2L turbocharged engine resting under the hood and it should allow the Golf R Facelift to sprint from 0-100km/h in about 3.9 seconds. To complete the package, the engine will be mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission.
