Volkswagen announced earlier today that they will be giving the Golf R a facelift and the vehicle in production will be released in 2016. VW also said that the Golf R Facelift will be based on the Golf Concept that was unveiled in the last Beijing Auto Show.
With that being said, car junkies can look forward to a nostalgic offering with the Golf R Facelift. After all, the concept model is based on the 1989 Rally Golf where the exterior will be lemon yellow in colour and the interior is themed in silver.
Another certainty with the Golf R Facelift is that it drives on the Haldex 5 AWD system. Under the hood, the hot hatch will come with a 2L turbocharged engine that is paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission. In figures, the Golf R Facelift will develop 292hp, thus, allowing it to accelerate from 0-62mpg in about 3.9 seconds.
The again, it is still too early to go into detail with the VW Golf R Facelift. Nevertheless, we can expect more details to come from VW when we near the vehicle’s release date.
