Back in 1989, Volkswagen made a name for itself with the Rally Golf. The sports hatch from the past was so amazing that it became fan-favourite vehicle. Now, it looks like the Rally Golf is about to make its return but will be known as the Golf R Facelift.
This was confirmed by Volkswagen yesterday when they revealed that the upcoming Facelift model will be like its concept that was unveiled back at the last Beijing Auto Show. For those that are unaware, the study was developed based on the 1989 Rally Golf.
As such, Golf fans can look forward to seeing the Golf R wearing a yellow paintjob with silver for its interior. Under the hood, the Golf R Facelift is expected to run on a 2.2L turbocharged engine that is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission.
While details might be scarce at the moment, the Golf R Facelift is expected to be built on the Haldex 5 platform with the AWD system. Of course, fans can expect more reveals from Volkswagen prior to the Golf R Facelift debut next year.
