We have already seen many spy shots of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner and now we have finally been treated to the unveiling of the 7 seated SUV in Thailand and Australia. The vehicle has been based around the new Hilux pickup and we can expect it to make its way into dealerships in Australia by the end of October.
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner is said to be offering genuine 4WD and it is said to be a tough vehicle. The SUV is coming to Australia in the form of the GX, GXL and the Crusade and all versions will offer the 2.8 litre four-cylinder, direct injection turbo diesel engine. This is going to offer 175hp and 450Nm of torque.
We can expect the engine of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner to be either the six speed manual version of six speed automatic and both will offer trailer sway control. This technology will help when towing in crosswinds and when making sharp turns. Towing capacity for the manual is 3 tonnes and for the automatic version it is 2.8 tonnes.
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner is a two wheel drive, however the simple rotation of the dial will turn it into a four wheel drive and it will offer high or low range. The off-road capabilities are also boosted thanks to the rear differential lock. The suspension of the vehicle has been specifically developed for the harsh conditions in Australia and come with a double wishbone at the front and coils spring five link config at the back. The electronics can be disabled for off the road situations, including driving on sand and in mud.
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner is going to offer many standard features and we are expecting 7 airbags, a reversing camera, hill start assistance control, air-conditioning in the front and back and touchscreen audio displays. The vehicle is also said to offer fog lamps, roof rails, keyless entry, downhill assistance control and have power back door and 18 inch alloy wheels with tyres for the highway.
