The Smart ForTwo was first introduced here in the US back in 2008 and it became a mockery in this great nation. This is due to its ultra-small size which failed to capture the hearts of the majority. Even so, the Smart ForTwo sold fairly well with an average of 10,000 units per year.
Soon, there will be a new Smart ForTwo coming and it was unveiled yesterday at the New York Auto Show. The super-mini hatchback came out with that awkward design like before but with a couple of major changes.
In detail, the next-gen Smart ForTwo is going to come with about 9hp more than before and also a newly-developed dual-clutch transmission. Heck, there will also be a manual option to go along with the turbocharged engine.
This should stop the complaints on how the old Smart ForTwo was really poor with its gear changing. However, the bigger question is will it make it big in a small market?
The answer is yes. Apparently, there are zero cars in the US cheaper than a smart, whether you’re financing or leasing. There are no other pure-gas cars that beat its city mileage in the US. The Smart ForTwo is going to be a hot city hatch once it gets released later next year.
