Mazda became the centre of a buzz yesterday when they demonstrated on how well-balanced the upcoming MX-5 Miata really is. The future roadster was placed above a triangular stand and it was able to balance itself out evenly.
This is amazing but nothing worth going over-excited about. This is because a perfect 50:50 balance will mean poorer performance for the MX-5 Miata. If the vehicle s to adopt a mid-engine or rear engine architecture, it will allow the Miata to complete every turns at high speed.
Obviously, this is impossible to do if the MX-5 has a perfect weight balance. However, it is not the end of the world for the Miata since 50:50 means better handling in every way. Furthermore, 50:50 uses the same tyres all around the car hence it will last longer on the MX-5.
