There is a recall going on for the 2016 Kia Sorento and it appears that around 12, 361 units are affected in the US by a faulty accelerator pedal. The vehicles that are part of the recall were made between 27 October 2014 and 29 January 2015.
Kia said that the recall is due to the capacitor on the circuit board of the 2016 Kia Sorento and it seems that in some cases this hasn’t been soldered on properly. This means that in some cases the vehicle can enter into Limp Home Mode or Forced Idle Mode. In this case the check engine or the electronic stability control lighting would be illuminated and lack of acceleration could in fact put the driver of the vehicle at risk.
Kia said that they will be replacing the accelerator pedal assembly in any 2016 Kia Sorento that has been affected. At the moment Kia said that they don’t know of any injuries or accidents in association with the recall of the car.
