Kia went on the New York Auto Show to unveil the next-gen Optima and while the sedan looks great, it still appears like its predecessor. This can be really confusing since the subtle design changes makes the new Optima feel more like a facelift model.
There aren’t many changes on the upcoming Optima worth speaking of since most of the styling are merely upgrades from the predecessor. In detail, the grille is now stretched to be wider for better integration with the headlights. Furthermore, there is the new vertical foglight surrounds and an independent lower grille being fitted on the Optima.
There isn’t much to share about the interior since most of the elements are brought over from the existing Optima. However, this is except for the new 8” infotainment system that has support for both iOS 8 and Android.
Under the hood, the next-gen Optima will be looking to run on a standard, naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder, as well as an optional 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder. Unfortunately, power output has been reduced from 192hp and 181lbs-feet of torque to 185hp and 178lbs-ft, and the 2.0T losing 27 of its 274hp and nine of its 269lb-ft.
Apparently, Kia claims that the power reduction comes with the aim to improve fuel economy. Then again, Kia wasn’t able to produce any fuel rating figures so the details will have to wait until later this year.
