The automotive industry is being plagued by a disease at the moment and it is causing a lot of problems for the car owners, governments and the car manufacturers. No, it is not the Ebola disease silly but instead, it is the Takata issue.
Over the last couple of months, various automakers have launched a mass recall of their vehicles over raising concerns with the Takata airbags. The fear was inflicted after many drivers were injured by the Takata airbags, which on some cases exploded without warning.
Ford, in particular, is expanding its recall campaign to another 25,000 Ranger pickup trucks from 2004-2005. After all, the vehicle has similar inflators to that of Honda, which was involved in a case that killed a Malaysian pregnant woman.
Of course, there is no confirming if the airbags are faulty but Ford is taking the safe option of inspecting each and every vehicle in its inventory. On another note, the American carmaker is also being pressured after a driver got injured by a faulty air bag on a 2007 Mustang.
Takata already made it clear that the airbags on the Honda vehicle where the death of the Malaysian woman occurred is not the same model as the ones which were responsible for the other four deaths that happened in the US. However, Takata added that the model is similar to that on the Ford Ranger.
It is simply amazing on how something that is built to save lives is now the biggest threat in the world right now. Just last year, 5 million vehicles have been recalled over the fear of faulty Takata airbags. At the moment, NHTSA is currently investigating into the matter.
