We have heard more about the new safety features on the 2016 Ford Mustang, particularly the plastic airbags that Ford has chosen to include. But are they a good or bad thing?
Ford has integrated the airbags into the glovebox door and this means that there is now more room for the knees of passengers when you compare the design to the traditional one. Instead of using the fabric airbag on the 2016 Ford Mustang they have chosen a moulded plastic that is between an outer and inner surface of the door of the glove box.
The airbag in the glove box of the 2016 Ford Mustang is said to weigh 65% less than the typical airbag but it offers the same protection. The restraints manager for Ford said that they went back to the drawing board with the design so that they could get it perfec and the result has been well worth it. The new design of the airbag means that they combined two separate parts into one part and this meant that weight and space was saved, giving the passenger in the front more room.
