The all-new Jeep Wrangler Sahara has finally arrived but there appears to be some sort of identity crisis with the vehicle after we personally tested it. For the first time in forever, the new Wrangler actually felt like a Chrysler instead of that rugged performance like its predecessors.
The moment we stepped inside the Wrangler Sahara, we were greeted by a luxurious cabin that offers soft seats, 5-speed automatic transmission and a nice radio. The comfort level got better when we started driving the vehicle.
Here in Boston, the roads are not well maintained and there are many potholes around. However, we never experienced any bumps thanks to the finely crafted suspensions. It basically drives like an average sophisticated modern vehicle like the ones wearing the Chrysler badge. Of course, there is still that 4WD lever that will unleash the off-road monster hiding within.
Of course, there is no such thing as a perfect car. The problem with the 4-door Jeep Wrangler Sahara we tested is with its unresponsiveness on the gas pedal. We felt as if we need to floor the pedal just to hear or feel a response from the 3.6L V6 Pentastar engine. The latter generates 305hp but the vehicle’s acceleration has been sluggish throughout.
Jeep is well-known for producing great 4×4 but off the records, they are also famous for having poor built quality and the tendency for their vehicles to catch fire. The 4-door Wrangler Sahara is satisfying at best so let’s just hope it does not light into flames.
