Both the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and the Chevrolet Volt are two vehicles that are so similar to each other. They are both hybrid cars and are also popular among the masses. Today, we are going to identify which is better.
Looking at the Chevrolet Volt, the hatchback is powered by a naturally-aspirated gas engine that is paired to an electric motor. The important bit here is its electric driving range. On a full charge, the vehicle is able to achieve 379miles which is undeniably impressive.
The Volt retails at $41,000 which means that it is not cheap to own. The car is driven on the FWD system and comes with a top speed of 100mph. This makes it no different from petrol cars or other hybrid cars.
On the other hand, there is the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid which comes with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission and this produces 206hp and 193ft-lbs of torque.
When driven with both petrol and electric engine, the Sonata returns a driving range of up to 671miles. On petrol alone, the Sonata returns 34mpg in city and 39mpg on highway.
For us, we highly recommend getting the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. Aside from the fact that it is more affordable at $26,545, the sedan is also more practical. If a mishap is to happen, the Sonata can swap between motors, something that the Chevy Volt can’t offer.
