Anyone reading the title will be laughing at the thought of the Honda Accord and the Hyundai Sonata being compared against each other. However with the 2015 Hyundai Sonata release its now in the 6th gen and it does have to be taken a lot more seriously. The vehicle is locked and loaded but how does it compare to the Honda Accord?
The Honda Accord and 2015 Hyundai Sonata have the 2.4 litre 4 cylinder engine which gives 185bhp. The weight difference between the two is just 6lbs and the length difference is a quarter of an inch. The Hyundai offers the 6 speed automatic and Honda put the CVT in their car.
It is one of the best CVTs thanks to it being flawless and smooth. When you have been driving it for a few days you are not going to notice any difference between it and a conventional automatic. The 2015 Hyundai Sonata is also flawless but it is let down by lack of good fuel economy. You should get about 24mpg when driving in the city and on the highway this is the 35mpg. The Honda Accord offers the 4 cylinder engine and you could get around 27mpg in the city and 36mpg on the highway.
The 2015 Hyundai Sonata manages to pack in an interior that is both elegant and practical as all the controls are within easy reach. There are some things in the Sonata that you don’t get with the Honda Accord. For instance there is the heated and cooled front bucket seating, the big trunk, heated steering wheel and the panoramic sun roof. It is let down by some hard plastics and the centre stack is ill fitting.
The cabin of the Honda Accord is laid out well and there are two displays which show the navigation and audio information at the same time. The cabin is big and it is user friendly and comfortable but the biggest issue is the fact that the speedometer is blocked by the steering wheel.
The base version of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata is $21, 960 and you can get hold of the Honda Accord for $422, 745. If you want the Accord EX-L with navigation it is going to cost you $30, 835 while the Hyundai Sonata Limited is available for $32, 385.
The 2015 Hyundai Sonata isn’t as good as the Honda Accord as it costs more, its more fuel efficient and not as comfortable. The gap is a small one though and the choice of which is best is going to be down to you.
