The Nissan Juke has been dominating the compact SUV segment for many years already but now, their supremacy is being threatened by newcomers, the Jeep Renegade and the Honda HR-V. Both vehicles are great in their own way but which is better?
For starters, it is best for car junkies to understand that the Renegade and the HR-V are built for two different purposes. The former will look to appeal the off-road lovers while the latter is created to be a reliable vehicle.
The Renegade, in particular, is powered by a 1.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Also, it comes with a set of stiffer suspensions, together with a high ground clearance to help it fulfil its off-road duties.
The Honda HR-V, on the other hand, runs on a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine that is mated to CVT transmission. Obviously, the choice of a CVT transmission is meant to keep the rev low so that the SUV can save as much oil as possible. Despite that fact, the HR-V can generate 170hp and 106ft-lbs of torque from its motor.
Even on features, the HR-V leaves the Renegade biting the dust. The Japanese SUV is equipped with air filtration, front air conditioning, audio controls on the steering wheel along with cruise control, phone control and it has steering wheel adjustments that are tilt and telescopic. All that the Renegade has to offer is Jeep’s off-road technologies.
While that may be great, it is important to note that off-roading does not appeal to everyone. As such, we believe that that the HR-V from Honda is the better compact SUV.
