Japan-made vehicles have never failed to sell well due to their affordability and reliability. This is no wonder why both the latest Honda Accord and Mazda 6 are among the bestselling mid-sized sedans in the world right now. However, between the two, which is better?
The Mazda 6 is much more affordable as it came out with a lower base price of $20,990. The Accord is priced from $23,625. Both vehicles are driven on the FWD system but it is the Mazda 6 that has the bigger engine capacity.
In detail, the Mazda 6 is powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that is paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This produces 184hp and 185ft-lbs of torque that also returns great fuel consumption figures of 26mpg in the city and 38mpg on the highway.
The Honda Accord, on the other hand, is powered by a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This produces 185hp and 181ft-lbs of torque while also returning fuel consumption figures of 24mpg city and 34mpg highway.
Judging from the technicalities above, it seems that the winner here is the Mazda 6. It is slightly slower in acceleration due to its heavier body but the fact that it is more affordably and fuel savvy makes it more appealing of the two.
However, it is also worth noting that the Honda Accord is safer than the Mazda 6. The former achieved 5-star safety ratings in almost every category whereas the latter scored some 4-star ratings on some categories.
