Yahoo has named their 2015 car of the year and their pick goes to the 2015 Golf GTi. The latter beat 17 other nominees for the crown and the list includes the Honda Fit, Dodge Challenger Hellcat, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the BMW i3 and the Chevy Camaro Z/28.
Of course, fans of the above vehicles shouldn’t be upset by the result as they are all winners in their respective categories. Yahoo Autos Editor, Alex Lloyd, revealed that the deciding factor is with the fact that the 2015 Golf GTi goes above and beyond of what is expected in its segment.
The ex-racer further claimed that the Golf GTi is so generalized that it can compete on any segment. Alex described the hatchback as a car that is at home on the highway, at home getting groceries; it was even at home on the racetrack, producing lap times similar to that of the mighty Mustang.
The latest Golf GTi is slightly longer than its predecessors, thus offering more cargo space for general use. The hatchback is powered by 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, which generates 210 hp, 258 lb-ft of torque, and a respectable 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway fuel rating.
