Honda’s luxury arm, Acura, is undoubtedly one of the best luxury carmakers around but the fact that the company lacks that X factor makes it the least popular luxury car manufacturers in the world. This is evident with the latest Acura TLX, which came out with a major blunder.
On papers, the TLX looks simple as it runs on a powerful V6 engine that operates on the FWD system. However, it didn’t take us long to realize that the TLX is actually underpowered and the culprit is with the 9-speed automatic gearbox.
The transmission on the TLX is not optimized for the V6 system, thus, disrupting the TLX’s potential. We dare say that Acura would have made it big if the luxury sedan is to adopt a dual-clutch transmission option paired with Acura’s SH-AWD technology.
Aside from that, everything about the TLX seems spot on. The interior is comforting, the exterior is not too flashy and the electronic features are not outdates.
It is unsure on what Acura was thinking when it decided on the 9-speed automatic gearbox. If it is a move to make the TLX fuel efficient, then that simply defeats the purpose of making a car for the rich echelon. After all, the latter can surely afford that extra oil to enjoy the ultimate V6 experience.
