The latest Volvo S60 has been among the top picks for a great company car. The sedan has so much space and comfort to offer to its passengers but the high price tag has placed it behind the Japanese jewel, the Honda Accord. Today, we shall find out which of the two is the better choice.
The Volvo S60, in particular, runs on the AWD 3L Naturally Aspirated 6-Cylinder petrol engine that is mated to a 6-speed automatic. This translates to a whopping 300hp and 325ft-lbs of torque. Power distribution stands at 12.7LBS/hp. The large engine capacity might offer tremendous power but efficiency suffers as a result. The S60 can only achiever 18mpg in the city and 25mpg when running on the highway.
Then there is the Honda Accord, which is powered by the FWD 2.4L 4-Cylinder petrol engine that is fixed to a 6-speed manual gearbox. In figures, the Accord offers 185hp and 181 ft-lbs of torque. Power distribution stands at 17.3LBS/hp. The sedan is also efficient as it can easily achieve 24mpg on city roads and 34mpg on the highways.
When studying the figures above, we can see that the Accord is the better option of the two. While it might come with a smaller 2.4L engine, the Accord has better power distribution than the S60. Furthermore, the Accord is 25% more fuel efficient than the S60.
In terms of price, the Honda Accord retails from just $21,680. This is almost half of the price of the Volvo S60, which can be obtained from $40,650. For that amount of money, there are other better luxury sedans that consumers can opt for instead of the S60.
Then again, it is hard to argue that the Swedish sedan offer comfort like no other. The leather seats are really soft and the leg room is also generous. Then again, the S60 is double the price of the Accord which makes it not worth the purchase. The Accord might be cheaper but it offers better value and efficiency in the long run.
