When we mention the Vauxhall Corsa, many would put up a ‘meh’ reaction. We used to do something similar until we tested the new model which was released late last month.
A quick background check revealed that the Corsa is Vauxhall most-prized possession. The latest model is built with new parts and underpinnings that ensure it is an upgrade from the previous model.
In detail, the new Corsa does not share any parts with its predecessor. The 2-door hatchback comes with two chassis option. One is Comfort while the other is Sport. We tested the latter and were indulged with a thrilling experience throughout.
The Sport chassis arrived with stiffer springs and shock absorbers, and the electric power steering gets a unique calibration for a more ‘direct’ response. Also, the newly designed suspensions ensured that the Corsa can handle the coarse roads with ease.
The car we drove draws its power from the ew turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoTec engine, which sounds like Ford’s EcoBoost for the Fiesta. However, the EcoTec mill generates 113bhp and 125lb ft of torque which is able to hit 62mph in 10.4 seconds. Also, there is a top speed of 121mph.
Of course, this is not as great as the motor offered on the Ford Fiesta. However, the Corsa has better fuel mileage which stands at 60mpg on average. In addition to that, the EcoTec performed quietly to give an overall relaxing drive.
Design-wise, the Corsa offers a structure of nice proportions. The front grille is shaped like a smile and the overall exterior gives off a gentle and friendly look. Inside the vehicle, we were amazed by the soft cushion. Even the plastic materials are well-done to not look or feel cheap.
All in all, the Corsa is truly a great car to own. Besides, it is also really affordable. The model we tested retails at less than £15,000 and it offers so much more than most cars out there.
