4×4 vehicles have never failed to disappoint as they are large, powerful and durable at the same time. The latest Ford Explorer and Toyota FJ Cruiser have proved this to be true but between the two, which is the better car?
In terms of looks, the FJ Cruiser seems more like a 4×4 than the explorer. Its ‘Hummerish’ style lets out an aura that says durability. Then there is the Ford Explorer, which is obviously better looking. However, the glossy premium look does not make it look strong. The fact that the Explorer cost more than the Cruiser might give drivers the fear of dirtying the paint job.
Under the hood, the FJ Cruiser has a larger 4L V6. The Explorer runs on a smaller 3.5L v6. Ford has got their tunings right as they manage to produce 290hp on a smaller engine. The Cruiser can only produce 260hp. Also, Ford did one better as its SUV can manage 446miles on a full tank. The Cruiser is less efficient as it achieves 380miles.
Inside the cabin, both SUVs are packed with tons of features like adjustable steering and power slots. Looking at the boot space, the Cruiser has got a larger 27.9 cubic feet of space. The Explorer only offer 21 cubic feet of space. Then again, the latter is a 7-seater. Folding down the third row seats will grant the car an additional 43.8 cubic feet.
All in all, both off-roaders are truly impressive. However, we have to go with the Toyota FJ Cruiser. Not only is it $3000 cheaper, but is also more practical and reliable than the Ford Explorer.
