Nissan first introduced the Qashqai back in 2006 and it is now one of the bestselling vehicles in the history of compact crossovers. As a matter of fact, Nissan is already celebrating as after being able to sell more than 2 million units of the Qashqai throughout its existance.
This is a record that is much better than the Mini and Ford. The former managed to sell 2 million units of a single model in the pace of 10 years while the latter managed to do something similar at a much later time of 11 years.
Nissan’s European Chairman, Paul Willcox, applauded the Qashqai and described it as something that aids Nissan by strengthening the company’s presence and dominance in Europe. The lad added that the 2 million units sold at a record breaking time is another piece of evidence on why consumers trust the brand.
Paul also credited the developers over at Sunderland, where the Qashqai is developed. The production team deserves to celebrate for helping Nissan reaching a brand new milestone.
However, the Sunderland facility is meant to accommodate the European market. There are also the Chinese facility, Japanese facility and the Russian facility. Speaking of which, the latest Qashqai will be looking to make an entry in the Russian market next year.
Then again, the Qashqai is still second best as it failed to beat out the Nissan Micras. Throughout the same length of time, the latter managed to sell 2.3 million units.
