This year, two new executive saloons have emerged from Japan and they are the Nissan Altima and the Honda Accord. While the latter might be more popular, is it better?
Just from the design, the Accord looks neater than the Altima. The latter has got a sporty headlight, which does look awkward from certain angles. Both cars are front-wheel drive with the Accord operating on a 6-speed manual transmission, and the Altima running on a fully automatic box.
The Accord runs on a 2.4L i-VTec engine that produces 185hp. The Altima has a larger 2.5L 4-cylinder engine but it is underpowered at 182hp. Then again, this is due to the fact that the Altima is more efficient than its counterpart. The saloon achieved 38mpg, which is so much more than the 34mpg recorded on the Accord.
Inside the cabin, both vehicles are akin to one another. They feature a steering wheel that has cruise control, audio controls and phone controls. Then again, it is a bit more spacious with the Accord as it offers 119 cubic feet of space for the passengers. The Altima has 101.9 cubic feet of space in its interior.
Even on boot space, the Accord has a larger 15.8 cubic feet worth of space. The Altima has only got 15.4 cubic feet of space in its rear.
While it might be hard to pull out a winner here, we have to side with the Honda Accord. The fact that it is $600 cheaper and more stylish makes it the more appealing choice. Then again, the Nissan Altima is surely savvier in the long run as it has one of the best fuel mileage in history.
