Earlier this year, two new SUVs got released and they are the Mazda CX-5 and the Subaru XV Crosstrek. Both vehicles have been enjoying a great sales record but which of them is technically better?
The CX-5 and the XV Crosstrek shares a lot of common ground despite their differences in offerings. For starters, both SUVs can accommodate 5-commuters and are powered by the same engine architecture, which is a 2L naturally-aspirated gas inline-4.
However, the engine tunings are totally different. Looking at the CX-5, it dries on the FWD system via a 6-speed manual transmission. Subaru, on the other hand, made the Crosstrek as an AWD vehicle that runs on a 5-speed manual transmission.
While the FWD CX-5 might not be appropriate for off-road usage, it does ensure great fuel consumption figures. As a matter of fact, the CX-5 is up to 16.7% more economical than the XV Crosstrek with a rating of 35mpg at best.
The CX-5 also generates 155hp and 150lbs-ft of torque, which confirms that it is more powerful than the 148hp and 145ft-lbs of torque developed by the XV Crosstrek.
Obviously, the CX-5 is a better performer than the Subaru XV Crosstrek. The former is the ideal SUV for everyday use while the latter offers an added off-road function. The difference between the two is a rather narrow one.
