The latest Mazda3 i SV is the perfect illustration of Mazda’s fast growing domination in the auto world. The car is well-styled, powerful and efficient at the same time. However, the same was said for the slightly older Hyundai Elantra. Today, we shall see which has more to offer.
Putting both the Elantra and the Mazda3 side-by-side, the latter appears to be more appealing. For a sedan, the Mazda3 have a very sporty look that comes with the hallmark smiley grille at the front. The Elantra looks disappointingly dull and old with its rounded built.
Under the hood, the Mazda3 is powered by the 2L 4-Cylinder SkyActiv engine that is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. This adds up to 155hp and 150 ft-lbs of torque. As for fuel efficiency, the sedan recorded 29mpg in city driving and 41mpg on highways. The 13.2 gallon tank can cover 541 miles when filled up to the brim.
Then there is the Elantra which runs on the 1.8L 4-Cylinder engine that is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Korean sedan is less powerful than its Japanese counterpart as it offers 148hp and 131 ft-lbs of torque. Even on efficiency, the Elantra came second best as it recorded 28mpg on city drive and 38mpg on highways. There is a 12.8 gallon tank that can keep the car driving for a maximum of 486 miles.
Here, we learned that the Mazda3 is superior to the Hyundai Elantra. While both FWD vehicles might have the same 106.3 inches wheelbase, it is the Mazda3 is larger in size. Then again, the Elantra defied the laws of physics as it offers more space for the driver and passengers. Looking inside the boot, the latter has got 14.8 cubic-feet of space to offer. This is so much more than the 12.4 cubic-feet that are on the Mazda3.
Then again, it is not enough to name the Elantra as a winner here. The Mazda3 bags the victory in this contest thanks to its sublime performance.
