The all-new Renegade is very symbolic to Jeep as it marks the carmaker entry in compact SUV market. Unlike most other vehicles from Jeep, the Renegade came out with a unique design that is simply sleek and appealing. Clearly, Jeep is attempting to reach out to the general consumers.
Underneath the gentle design however, the Renegade is equipped with Jeep’s off-road technologies that are considered as the best in the world. We actually tried the 2L turbodiesel model and discovered the off-road wonders with it.
In figures, the motor generates 138hp through a 6-speed manual gearbox. This translates to an acceleration time from 0-62mph in just 10.2 seconds. The top speed, on the other hand, is capped at 110mph.
The Renegade simply came out with the right amount of power to aid in in climbing the mountain, tackle the dirt trails, cross a river and also surfing on the desert dune. On the normal roads however, the Renegade has a different story to share.
Comfort is not a big issue with the compact SUV. The Renegade has an interior layout that is decent and comforting. The only problem is with the suspensions that are simply too stiff for our liking.
The major flaw with the Renegade is actually with its performance on the road. Even when driving a 62mph, we find it hard to accelerate to overtake the vehicle ahead of us. The Renegade simply feels underpowered in our books.
All in all, the Jeep Renegade is still a great compact SUV to own. It is simply a masterpiece in the world of off-road. The again, not everyone is a fan of off-roading and this can be the biggest obstacle to the Renegade’s road to success.
