Late last year, Jeep made a bold move when they launched the Renegade to compete in the overcrowded compact SUV segment. What surprised the world most is that the Renegade came out with a gentle design, which is rare to come from Jeep.
Even the interior too is very different from other Jeep vehicles. Instead of a simple bench and steering wheel combination, the Renegade exhibits a thoroughly comforting cabin that is completed with thick cushions and a neatly designed dashboard.
We were so attracted to learn more about the Renegade that we actually tested the vehicle out yesterday. Again, we were amazed at how well the Renegade cruises on the highway. However, we noticed that the 2L 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine can be sluggish when we attempted to overtake at high speed.
Regardless, we do appreciate the tall driving feel. In short, the 138hp that is pumped through the 6-speed manual gearbox is decent enough for daily commuting. Then again, we are turned off by the Renegade’s thirst for fuel.
Of course, the most appealing feature on the Renegade is the 4WD system. Off the roads, the Renegade is a beast, like how a Jeep vehicle should be. The soft suspension offered us better off-road handling and the Renegade can easily tackle a mountain, muddy tracks and also a river stream.
All in all, the Jeep Renegade is simply great in every way. Then again, Jeep will have a hard time in trying to sell the Renegade as the general market are more appealed by the fuel savvy Nissan Juke and Honda HR-V.
