Jeep made its debut in the compact SUV segment after the company launched the Renegade last month. Surprisingly, the vehicle came out with a spectacular design that will surely appeal the general market.
This is very rare from Jeep as the carmaker has never been shy to promote their rugged-styled agenda with their vehicles. Nevertheless, we managed to hop inside one of the Renegade earlier this week and realized that looks can be deceiving.
Apparently, the Jeep Renegade is not able to match up the fuel efficiency and performance that is offered by its rivals, the Nissan Juke, Honda HR-V and many more. The acceleration of the Renegade is considered below par for a vehicle that is powered by 2L turbodiesel engine that generates 138hp and controlled by a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Thus, the Renegade feels underpowered throughout out test. It also left us worried numerous times as we are not confident in overtaking at high speeds with the Renegade.
On the flip side of the coin, the Renegade is still a beast that is very typical of Jeep. The car is simply built with Jeep’s hallmark off-road features to ensure that it is developed to be a dirt-trail monster. The off-road 4WD mode can be activated at a push of a button and upon doing so; the engine behaves livelier than ever.
As such, the conclusion is simple. The Renegade is basically a decent compact SUV when used on the road while also being something extraordinary when off the road. This makes it an extra special vehicle in the trendy segment.
