Jeep has been constantly reiterating on how the Grand Cherokee will be challenging the luxury class that is populated by BMW, Range Rover and Audi. Well, the Grand Cherokee has already been released and it is time to find out if Jeep were right about the large SUV.
The Grand Cherokee is nothing like other SUVs in the market today. It comes with a bold stance and a solid design. The Grand Cherokee is simply more boxy than curvy, which is something the world has been missing out on.
Under the hood, the large SUV is powered by a 3L diesel engine that generates 237hp and 405lb-fts of torque. There is only one engine powering the two trim levels. The difference between the trims is that one uses a steel suspension set up while the other uses the Quadra-Lift Sports Air suspension.
The Grand Cherokee is also a performance vehicle. It can sprint to 62mph from stop in just 8.2 seconds. There is also a top speed of 126mph. This puts the Grand Cherokee on the same league with its German rivals.
On the downside of things, the SUV’s interior is still dull, like most other American cars. The materials feel cheap and the button layout does not have quality on it.
The positive is that the Grand Cherokee returns a decent fuel consumption figure of 34mpg on average driving conditions. In short, the Grand Cherokee is not far from being on par, if not better, than most other luxury SUVs.
