2014 Hyundai Santa Fe vs Rivals: Where Does It Standes It Stand

The Santa Fe has long existed as Hyundai’s best SUV in history. Now that it has been refreshed with an all new model, let’s see if the latest Santa Fe has got what it takes to be a huge challenger in the full-sized SUV segment.

We tested the 3.3L 6-cylinder 4-door GLS model which retails at $29,900 and were pleased with the vehicle’s offering. Like its name, the Santa Fe runs on a 3.3L V6 engine that is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Performance-wise, the Santa Fe generates 290hp and 252ft-lbs of torque. This enables it to offer great acceleration, which is among the quickest in the segment. Also, there is a top speed of 140mpg in place. On the downside of things, we expected more power from a V6 mill instead of 290hp.

On the bright side of things, the V6 motor is tuned to be a fuel saver. On city roads, the gas mileage stands at 18mpg. Over at the highway, the Santa Fe returns 25mpg.

Unfortunately, the 7-seater SUV failed to impress with the interior space. When compared to the Chevrolet Tahoe we tested recently, the Santa Fe feels a lot more compact inside instead of spacious.

Nevertheless, Hyundai has managed to produce a wonderful Santa Fe overall. It is surely a reliable vehicle to own, while also being affordable at the same time. The performance and fuel economy of the Santa Fe will surely be its power cards to compete with other large SUVs in the world.
