The latest Chevrolet Volt is undoubtedly one of the best hybrid vehicles we have ever driven. The Volt is a simple car, but sophisticated with its offerings. In fact, it is the only hybrid vehicle that managed to leave us forgetting about the driving range.
For new Volt drivers, the first thing you will notice it is one hell of a silent vehicle. For us, this is a slight disadvantage as it kind of left us worried on whether we have stalled or not. Also, the Volt runs on a 1.4L petrol mill that performs like a 2L. The small engine capacity is able to tow around the 1,750kg vehicle without any issue.
With an EV motor paired to the petrol mill, the Volt is able to offer torque on demand. In figures, the car has 273ft-lbs of torque to offer. Regardless, the Volt does not disregard its economical purpose thus, it returns 235mpg constantly.
This is why we find the Volt special. On the outside, the car looks ordinary and performs ordinarily. It simply made us forget that the Volt is a hybrid petrol-EV car. For daily usage, the EV-only mode is enough to cover a small distance, to and fro. We simply don’t feel the pinch of having to pump in fuel again.
