2014 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint 1.4 Review: We Found A Soul

To many, cars are simply a mode of transportation that comes in different varieties and offerings. For Alfa Romeo however, cars are considered as a mechanical being with a soul. The latest Alfa Giulietta Sprint has just been released and yesterday, we tested it.

The Sprint we drove is powered by the 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol turbo engine with 148bhp. It isn’t as impressive as the old-school Sprint but our opinion changed when we started flooring on the pedal. The Sprint managed to accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds and we hit the top speed of 130mph. The 4-cylinder pumps out a whopping 184ft-lbs through the 6-speed manual transmission like a beast.

When cruising, the Sprint exhibits that Italian gentleness that we first thought to be a myth. The 1.4-litre engine managed to behave well at low speeds. The icing on the cake is with the lightness of the Sprint. It weighs merely 1290kg which explained why the car has a lot of power to offer. Furthermore, the Sprint returned an impressive fuel consumption figure of 49.6mpg.

It was a thrilling driving experience overall, despite the small engine capacity. Furthermore, the hatchback comes with a design that is simply different in a more beautiful way. The sole structure of the vehicle reminds us of the old school wagon. The Sprint is well equipped with LED running lights and the lower grille is where the spotlights are allocated.

Alfa Romeo might not be the biggest name in the automotive world but whenever consumers are looking for a special breed of vehicles with a soul, there is no better brand than the Italian carmaker.
