It seems that we could be about to see the end of jailbreaking, as the hackers have been very quiet following the release of iOS 7.1 by Apple, which destroyed the iOS 7 jailbreak. In the past the Evad3rs would have fought back quickly, so could this mean that they are about to give up and let Apple win?
The last time we heard from them was when they launched Evasi0n7 build 1.0.7 some weeks ago. This suggests that they feel beaten by Apple.
Of course it didn’t come as any big surprise that Apple managed to quash the jailbreak as three of the exploits were acknowledged by Apple and quickly stamped on with the release of iOS 7.1. The Evad3rs team is made up of @pimskeks, @planetbeing, @pod2g and @MuscleNerd and they may now be working on a way around Apples security to offer the latest jailbreak.
This may mean that we will have to wait until the second half of this year, possibly until iOS 8 arrives on the scene, this is due to the fact that the latest OS is halfway through its life cycle. iOS 8 may arrive with the iPhone 6 in September.
Ben Reid from Redmond Pie said that owners of the iPhone may wish to stay clear of updating to iOS 7.1 if they want to keep the jailbreak.
“If you want to preserve your device’s jailbreaking potential, then you must avoid updating to it at all costs … Do not download the new firmware version unless you’re willing to give up any immediate hope of a jailbreak,” Reid warned on his piece.
However for those who want to test out the new OS there is always the fall back of being able to revert back. The process of this can be found here.
At the moment the likelihood of us seeing an untethered jailbreak for iOS 7.1 looks doubtful, however there is said to be a tethered solution available for the iPhone 4 thanks to @Wincom.
