The Apple iPhone 5S and 5C are heading to the bargain bin with their price tags and this has sparked off speculation that we may see an early release of the Apple iPhone 6.
Best Buy, Walmart and MacMall have all lowered the price tags of the Apple iPhone 5S and 5C. Walmart started sales on the run up to the holidays; they offered the Apple iPhone 5C for $27 when taken with a two year contract. Originally, the phone cost $99. Many more retailers have offered the handset with price reductions, despite Apple only launching it in September of last year.
In December the price of the iPhone 5C at Walmart dropped down to $45 from $79 and it was available on New Year’s for $45 with a $75 gift card.
Walmart were offering the discounted Apple iPhone 5S at $127 which was down from $199. The Apple iPad Mini 16GB was on for $299 along with a gift card of $50.
At Best Buy the iPhone 5 was offered for $124 when taking it out with a contract of two years, this was a saving of $75. MacMall put the 32GB version of the iPhone 5S up for $120 and the 16GB had the price tag of $20.
It is not unusual to see price drops on devices at the holidays but the Apple SRP is generally controlled tightly by Apple, however the cost of the Apple iPhone 5C has been dropping ever since the handset was launched.
The drop in price has sparked rumours that we could be about to see the launch of the Apple iPhone 6. Rumours have been going around that the iPhone 6 may have a larger display, possibly around 4.8 inches to 6 inches. It could run on the 64 bit processor, have M7 graphics and of course the fingerprint scanner seen on the iPhone 5S. A patent from Apple also suggested that Apple could be looking into launching the iPhone 6 with a curved display.
