Samsung has started to rollout the Jelly Bean 4.3 update for the Samsung Galaxy S3 over in India. SamMobile said that the update for the Samsung Galaxy S3 is available OTA or owners can get it with the Kies software. The update is around 408MB.
SamMobile also talked about the changelog. This includes the Samsung Galaxy Gear support along with the update to the UI core elements. This is similar to the updated GPU drivers of the Samsung Galaxy S4, the new Samsung keyboard, lock screen which comes with ripple effect and many widgets. Other improvements include Daydream, actionable notifications, driving mode and screen modes that are new. There is also a new camera mode with shoot an sound and move to SD card feature.
The update to Jelly Bean 4.3 for the Samsung Galaxy S3 brought with it new apps, these includes contacts, calculator, gallery and music along with a new S Voice and full screen support for Samsung apps. The Android 4.3 update arrived with support for the Samsung Galaxy Gear, which is the wearable device from Samsung. This now brings the Samsung Galaxy S3 to the fourth device that functions with the Gear following on from the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy S4.
Samsung had suspended the update to Jelly Bean 4.3 but have now resumed it. Owners had been complaining that they had seen issues with Wi-Fi connectivity, the lock screen being unresponsive and the system hanging with the battery having to be taken out to restart the handset.
The update first began to roll out in November of last year for the Samsung Galaxy S3. The 4.3 update brings with it the camera features found on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Gear support. It was put on hold in December due to issues with some owners being left without the update.
The French carrier SFR along with Telstra in Australia haven’t confirmed the update for Android 4.3 for the Samsung Galaxy S3. A rumour has been going around that the Samsung Galaxy S3 should receive the update to KitKat 4.4 in April, bypassing the 4.3 update.
