LG Nexus 6? 17th May G3 Event Hints New Google Phone Speculations Too

The release date for the LG G3 – which might be the base for the Nexus 6 – could well be May 17. Some South Korean media sources reckon this is the case, and if it is, then LG will already be working on this handset to get it ready. However, the LG G2 isn’t even one year old yet – not until August – and if the G3 comes out in May, this will be before the Samsung Galaxy S5!

LG’s last two devices were also the bases for the Google Nexus and the Google Nexus 5, so chances are that the LG G3 is the base for the Nexus 6 as well.

LG might launch the LG G3 a bit early because the G2 didn’t sell all that well, despite good reviews. The company will want to impress people with the G3 and will want it to be able to compete with the Galaxy S5, which is rumoured to have similar specs. The G3 might come with a 5”, QHD 2k display with a 2560×1440 resolution. There may also be a 16MP OIS camera and an octa-core chip. The reason for the early release, sources say, is so that the LG G3 can go head-to-head with the Galaxy S5.

A May release will mean the G3 comes out two or three months after the HTC One+, but apparently, the HTC One+ is only a slight improvement on its predecessor. LG devotees are wondering if the company might launch the LG G2 Pro, which will be a halfway house between the G2 and the G3, but it’s already brought out the LG G Flex with the curved display. If the company does bring out the LG G2 pro, it’ll probably debut at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It could well sport a 5.9” display – bigger than the LG G Flex’s.
