HTC One Android 4.4.2 KitKat Rolls Out But What For?

KitKat 4.4.2 has been released for the HTC One and this is said to offer security enhancements along with cloud printing and a great deal more. But owners have asked if the update fixes the issue with the purple hue on the camera.

The update is available for the HTC One and HTC Mini in Canada, with Telus, Rogers, Virgin, Wind and SaskTel going to be rolling out the update very soon.

The HTC One in the US will be getting updated OTA to KitKat 4.4.2 with AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint, while in Europe the HTC One Sense is getting an update.

Owners of the HTC One X can look forward to an update to Jelly Bean 4.2.2. this was confirmed by the HTC executive who said it was approved for AT&T. The update may arrive within the same time as the 4.2.2 update for the HTC One.

Some features will be dependent on the carriers of course, but there are some things which all owners can expect to see. For instance there will be enhancements to Sense 5.5, security, cloud printing, Bluetooth profiles, flash support and updates to Blinkfeed and the UI.

One issue that owners have reported has been with a purple or red hue on the camera app. This means that photos often have red or purple tints when taking photos in low light.

When Jelly Bean 4.3 came out it was said to fix it but some owners have complained that it didn’t. LlabTooFer posted on Twitter the change log for 4.2.2 and he said that HTC hadn’t said anything about an issue with the camera app.

Android and Me said that an owner had asked if the camera app would be fixed with KitKat 4.4.2 but another owner pointed out that the issue wasn’t anything to do with software. It was down to an issue with the hardware and they said that the camera module needed to be replaced.

Anyone having issues with this can make adjustments to the contrast and saturation on the camera app.
