Samsung are behind some of the best mobile handsets on the market that it is very easy to lose track of what they have to offer. However if you are looking for a device they have some of the best, including the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Note 3. But how does the latest addition to the stable stand up?
It seems that there is a fine line between smartphones and phablets as some years back the 5.1 inch display of the Samsung Galaxy S5 would have been unheard of. The display is 89% as big as that of the original Samsung Galaxy Note. When the latter first came out in 2011 it was laughed at.
While the Note 3 is a lot bigger, it is not as big as you might expect as it is only 6% longer and 8% wider than the Samsung Galaxy S5. The Samsung Galaxy S5 does happen to be heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S4, however the Note 3 is 16% heavier than it.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has dimples on the back of the handset while that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is faux leather and the Samsung Galaxy S4 is smooth plastic.
Both handsets are available in different colours. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes in black, pink, white, Merlot Red and Rose Gold and he Samsung Galaxy S4 is available in black, blue, white and copper.
With the Samsung Galaxy S5 you get around 80% more display than on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and both of the handsets are available in 1080p displays.
The Samsung Galaxy S Pen is a feature of the Samsung Galaxy Note and this is also used with the Air Command along with Pen Window, Action Memo and S Finder.
The fingerprint scanner is found on the Samsung Galaxy S5 just as it is with the iPhone 5S. This allows users to unlock the device with their fingerprint instead of a passcode and it can be used for PayPal transactions.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has health monitoring apps and the heart rate sensor which is located close to the camera of the handset.
The battery of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is 2,800mAh compared to the 2,800mAh of the Samsung Galaxy S4.
The camera choices are a 16MP on the back of the Samsung Galaxy S5 while this is a camera of 13MP on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Both of the handsets can record in 4k video and they both record slow motion at 120fps.
Both devices have compatibility for the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and the Gear Fit.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 offers the Snapdragon 800 quad core at 2.3GHz and the Samsung Galaxy S5 has the 801 Snapdragon quad core at 2.5Ghz.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has 3GB of RAM and its smaller sibling offers 2GB of RAM.
Owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 can also enjoy more storage along with more expandable memory.
Both devices offer KitKat, however not all carriers have the KitKat 4.4 update yet for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
At the moment there is no word on how much the Samsung Galaxy S5 will cost but it is thought that it will be around the same price as the Samsung Galaxy S4 when that launched. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is around $700.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has been out for about six months while the Samsung Galaxy S5 comes out in April.
