We have now seen the Samsung Galaxy S5 but is it much better than its predecessor the Samsung Galaxy S4.
There has been a great deal of hype about the device and the Samsung Galaxy S4 is now one year old. It has also been in competition with the likes of the HTC One and the LG G2. Samsung has some stiff competition and so they need to do something superb with the Samsung Galaxy S5, but have they done enough?
The display of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is 5 inches Super AMOLED and offers 1080 x 1920 resolution. It used to be the best display on the market and it’s still a good choice.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is 5.1 inches of full HD and Super AMOLED so it isn’t a huge change. In fact it is just 415ppi.
The design of the Samsung Galaxy S4 was much the same as its predecessor, unlike HTC which designed with metal and glass and the HTC One comes with a unibody of aluminium. It feels solid, while Samsung stuck with plastic.
The design of the Samsung Galaxy S5 hasn’t changed that much and it still looks plastic. It comes in at 142 x 72.5 x 8.1mm and 145g it’s slightly bigger and heavier than the Galaxy S4, which is 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9mm and 130g.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has KitKat 4.4, so the devices are the same. Both have TouchWiz, but the notifications bar and lockscreen has changed on the Samsung Galaxy 5 but not too drastic. The notifications screen does give better and quicker access to settings.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with a battery of 2600mAh and it offers the average battery life. With medium to low use you can still have around 50% at the end of the day.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with the 2800 mAh battery and Samsung say that you can get 10 hours of web browsing or 12 hours of playing video. It also comes with the Ultra Power Saving mode that will close down all features that are not essential and turns the display to black and white.
There is the 1.9GHz quad core processor thanks to the Snapdragon 600 processor along with 2GB of RAM but it has been beaten by faster processors that are on the market now, which includes the 2.5GHz quad core processor which is found in the Samsung Galaxy S5. The Samsung Galaxy S5 has 2GB of RAM.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes packed with features, these include Air Gesture, Air View and Smart Scrll.
The Samsung Galaxy 5 has the fingerprint scanner and it is also dust and water proof. It can connect to Wi-Fi and 4G for fast speeds.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is packed with health apps such as the S Health app and heart monitor.
The camera on the Samsung Galaxy S4 is 13MP but the Samsung Galaxy S5 offers the 16MP camera. The latter also has fast focus in just 0.3 seconds and it has HDR effects in real time.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 can take video in 1080p but the Samsung Galaxy S5 can take footage in 4K.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a superb device and is a good device for anyone wanting an all-round performer without paying top end prices.
However the Samsung Galaxy S5 is at the top end with specs that are boosted with many new features. So if you want the latest and greatest, this is it.
