Samsung Galaxy S5 Just A Midlife Upgrade, ‘Super S5′ Coming Next?

When Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy S5 last month it didn’t get the dedicated event reveal that the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 had. This led some people to speculate that Samsung had introduced the device earlier than what had been expected. Now we are hearing that Samsung unveiled the Samsung Galaxy S5 early thanks to a lack of innovation and to compete against the Apple iPhone 5S, which has been well received in Europe.

Before the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 at the MWC reports had suggested that the hand may arrives with a 20MP camera and metal body. When it did arrive it didn’t have these features and the specs were not that much different from what had been seen on the Samsung Galaxy S4.

An industry insider said that there had been a general consensus among employees at Samsung about lack of product innovation. It was said that Samsung then chose to launch the device at the MWC instead of holding a separate Unpacked event as this way they could divert the lack of innovation problem.

Industry observers had pointed out that it was unusual for Samsung to launch the device at the MWC when they had previously held aggressive marketing campaigns for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the S4.

“There are perhaps many reasons behind our decision to reveal the Galaxy S5 at this year’s MWC, but it was mainly aimed at countering Apple’s iPhone 5S,” Business Korea quoted a Samsung executive as saying. “I heard that it was necessary for our company to unveil the new version ahead of schedule, since the iPhone 5S got a better-than-expected response in Europe, which is the Galaxy S series’ stronghold.”

The Samsung Galaxy S5 failed to meet some key hardware milestones, the main one was the rumoured 64 bit Exynos processor along with the iris scanner and 2k AMOLED display. SamMobile pointed out that it would make a lot more sense if Samsung were to launch a more advanced version of the Samsung Galaxy S5, which would include hardware specs that were improves along with a metallic design.

Samsung could put the Samsung Galaxy S5 in the mid to mid-high market with aggressive price tag and the Samsung Galaxy S5 Super could be competition for devices in the high-end market.

ETNews said that the premium version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Super could arrive with a QHD display with resolution of 2560 x 1440 in the next few months and follow on from the 1080p display once this has hit the market.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will make its way out on April 11 when it will be launched in 150 countries around the world
