Normally, a standing quarter mile drag race is organized to compare two vehicles from the same segment. On a rare occasion, organizers and enthusiasts found a need to compare two different vehicles from different segments for some unspecified reason.
This was the case with the recent drag race which saw the latest Subaru WRX STI and the Porsche Cayman going head to head with each other. The former retails at $38,190 and is classified as a common sports sedan. The Cayman, on the other hand, retails at $70,160 and it is a luxury sports roadster.
In figures, the WRX STI is powered by a 2.5L turbocharged F4 engine that is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This allows it to generate 305hp and 290lb-fts of torque. Meanwhile, the Cayman runs on the 2.7L F6 engine that is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This generates 275hp and 213lb-ft of torque.
While the spec sheet suggests that the WRX STI, many thought that the Cayman has the better chances due to its lighter body. Then again, the race is simply full of surprises and it is best you watch it for yourself above. Trust, it is a-minute-and-a-half video that is worth the watch.
