When automakers say that they are working on a facelift, most of the time, the update is all about improving what’s already there so that the vehicle is slightly better than before but that is not what BMW have in mind when they say that they are about to give the BMW i8 a facelift.
Autocar reported that BMW is looking to turn the BMW i8 from a hybrid to a fully electric powered model. To make that possible, it is said that BMW will modify the carbon fiber structure of the center tunnel so that they can fit in a larger battery pack.
Although the battery pack will be bigger now, the BMW i8 weight will remain at 3274lbs. It is believed that the BMW i8 would be powered by two electric motors now. The electric motor in the current model delivered about 268hp which means we could be seeing the BMW i8 come with a 500hp engine when it arrives.
