When it comes to tablets from Apple, there isn’t much to say about the latest iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3 except for their differences in size. Well, there are actually more difference beyond that and customers should look into them before confirming their purchase.
For starters, both the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3 runs on the same resolution of 2048 x 1536. However, the fact that the iPad Mini 2 houses a smaller 7.9” display means that it is sharper with 324ppi compared to the Air 2’s 264ppi.
The processors too are different for both iPads. The Air 2 runs on the Apple A8X chipset with triple core CPU clocked at 1.5GHz, and accompanied by 2GB of RAM. Internal storage depends on the trim level, starting with 16GB, 32GB and 128GB in that order.
Then there is the iPad Mini 3 which is powered by the 1.3GHz dual-core Cyclone ARM V8 processor with 1GB of RAM. Unlike the iPad Air 2, the Mini 3 is offered with 16GB, 64GB and 128GB.
The cameras are also sharper on the iPad Air 2. The large slate from Apple is equipped with the 8MP rear camera and a decent 1.2MP front shooter. The iPad Mini 3, on the other hand, has a 5MP rear and 1.2MP front cameras.
Prices for the iPad Mini 3 starts at $399 for the 16GB model, $499 for the 64GB model and $599 for the 128GB model. The iPad Air 2 shares the same pricing pattern except for the fact that it cost $100 more for every trim level.
With that being said, it is clear that both the iPad Mini 3 and the iPad Air 2 are tailored to meet different purposes. The former is aimed at being a simple device to surf the net and play the apps while the latter is meant to be the ultimate video player and a productivity machine.
