Over the past months, Volkswagen has been teasing the car junkies with the Beetle AWD concept design. The reception from the automotive industry has been a rather positive one and now, VW has taken the next step in developing the Beetle AWD.
Known as the Beetle Dune, VW created a concept model and unveiled it back at the last Detroit Auto show. The Dune arrived with that classy Beetle structure from the past but this time, it enjoys a more modern touch. There are now sporty lines running on the hood and the lower grille is bordered by a chrome metal divider which separates it from the lower bumpers.
VW has made it clear that the VW Beetle Dune will be developed with the AWD architecture. This will enable the vehicle to go off-road. Despite that fact, the concept is equipped with low profile tyres like conventional vehicles and the ground clearance does not look ready to take on the tough hilly terrains.
Perhaps, many misunderstood what VW meant. Upon viewing the concept, it is more logical to see the VW Beetle Dune as more of a beach vehicle that will replace the Baja Bug. If this is the case, then the Dune will be restricted to countries with long coastal lines where the market is hot.
All in all, this is a positive development on the VW Beetle Dune. The car has got the looks and the appealing factor. Heck, the concept already looks like the complete deal. We can surely expect VW to produce the Beetle Dune next year.
