Most mid-range to high-end vehicles today are equipped with a transmission system that offers more than 6-speed. It is no secret that the more gears is said to improve fuel economy.
However, many are unaware of the fact that the closer gear ratios on a 7 or 8 speed transmission will pump the horsepower better. Thus, this further optimizes the running engine better and reducing loss of power.
There is another way to replace the multiple speed levels and it through equipping the vehicle with CVT transmission. The again, such a gearbox won’t be able to handle large number of ponies. Furthermore, they heat up far too easily.
With that being said, there is no wrong in getting a transmission system with so many gears. In fact, the more is the merrier for the health of the car. This is unless drivers prefer manual where everything is straightforward.
