2014 Renault Clio RS: Wrong Transmission Left Many Seeking Older RS190

Months ago, Renault released the all-new Clio RS200 which arrived with a turbocharged 1.6L 4-cylinder that is mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission. This is a major turnoff as we couldn’t enjoy the raw power of the RS200 through the automatic transmission.

This is really unusual from Renault as over the years, the Clio RS has always arrived with a manual transmission. Could it be that the French carmaker is attempting to make the Clio more user friendly for the folks that can’t drive a manual?

Regardless, Renault could have at least offered manual transmission as an option. This explains why the Clio RS has been selling slowly to loyal customers. The latter prefers to purchase the previous RS190 instead.

The predecessor arrived last year with a 2L engine that offers 197hp which can hit 62mph from standstill in just 6.7 seconds. Also, there is a top speed of 141mph and the hot hatchback runs on a manual gearbox.

On the downside of things, the 190 has been ceased from production and the only way to get the car is through getting a used model. On average, the 190 comes with a fee of £4000.
