The all-new Peugeot 108 has finally arrived and unlike other hatchbacks, the 108 looks different from its siblings. The 108 is being offered in many trim levels but today, we are going to look specifically at the Pure Tech Allure model.
The 108 we tested is powered by 1.2L Pure Tech engine that is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This enables it to generate 82hp and 116Nm of torque. The first thing we did upon getting inside the 108 was taking it for a short sprint. Amazingly, the car achieved 0-62mph in 11seconds, which is faster than the bigger brother, Peugeot 208.
The steering is light and responsive. To some, this might be good news but we don’t like it at all. For us, the steering is too light and driving on a small hatch like the 108; we fear that the car might roll over. However, that failed to happen. We forced an over-steer at a bend and the 108 controls it grip well but it does hurt the individuals inside the car as we got tossed all over the place.
Speaking of which, the interior is a work of art for the 108. The seats come with artistic pattern that gives off that unique feeling of Paris. There isn’t much buttons inside the car as most features and functions are controlled by the touchscreen panel embedded on the dashboard. Of course, it could have been better if the car is fitted with a smaller steering wheel.
So we returned back to the Peugeot Showroom and did some calculations at our meeting table. There, we discovered that the Peugeot 108 only emits 98g/km of CO2. This 1g better than what is stated on the brochure. Now the 108 might not appeal to all but we feel that it will make a great car for a city dweller.
