Automatic transmission revolutionizes the automotive industry by making it simpler to drive. However, the transmission developer and our driving schools failed to highlight on whether it is alright to put the car into ‘P’ when waiting for a traffic light.
For starters, doing so has its advantages. Our research team revealed that a car on ‘P’ actually removes 50% of the load on the engine when compared to putting it on ‘N’. In other words, having the car in ‘P’ saves more fuel.
On the downside of things, drivers from behind might mistook the missing brake lights and crash from behind. This could lead to an event where your car’s parking pawl will get destroyed instantaneously. Furthermore, it requires additional seconds to get from ‘P’ to ‘D’. This will put the car at risk of more mishaps in an undesired and unpredicted event.
As such, it is much safer for drivers to spend a little more on petrol and leave the engine idling at ‘N’. After all, ‘P’ stands for parking at is meant to live up to its name. Waiting at the traffic light does not qualify as parking the vehicle.
