Nissan has already launched the Cube and it arrived with a weird design that seems is believed to be a mixture of an SUV and a van. Regardless, the Cube managed to appeal to a great amount of consumers as it recorded quite a decent sales record.
In terms of design, the Cube, like its name, is shaped like a cube. It sports a boxy structure that is really different from other vehicles from the same segment.
The Cube drives on the FWD architecture. It is powered by a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 122 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque. The power is handled by a standard 6-speed manual transmission which comes with CVT as an option.
The Cube on CVT is considered as something really economical as it returns 27 miles per gallon city/31 mpg highway. If it drives on the manual transmission, the car will return 25 mpg city/30 mpg highway.
Inside the vehicle, the Cube offers a really neat layout. However, there is one feature that we find disturbing. Right above the central dashboard there is a shag carpet that is round in shape. The carpet is rooted right above the centre ventilations and it is something no viewers can ever miss.
We asked the Nissan salesman to describe what it is and he claims that it is an innovative tool for drivers to place their sunglasses or smartphones on without seeing it fall. So when we tested the vehicle, we tried putting stuffs on the carpet. Not surprisingly, out items fell off the carpet. We approached the dealer again and he was lost for words.
Even today, there has yet to be any logical explanation for the carpet’s existence. We have posted our enquiry at Nissan and has yet to receive a feedback from the Japanese carmaker. Owners of the Nissan Cube are also displeased with the feature citing it to be ugly.
