The Porsche Macan can be described as a sports car that is living in the shell of an SUV. Similarly, the latest Mazda CX-5 can be said to be like the Macan that is not exclusive for the luxury market. Built on the Kodo-design language, the CX-5 exhibits beauty and is believed to offer a cutting-edge performance
We managed to get behind the wheel of the 2.5L AWD Mazda CX-5 and it is truly a memorable experience. For starters, it was our first time testing out the SkyActiv technology which made it feels nervous. Then again, our agitations disappeared as soon as we started cruising on the SUV.
To think of the Mazda CX-5 as something that is built for power is wrong. Yes, the car has an output of 184hp and 185 lb-ft of torque from its 2.5L Inline-4 engine mated to a 6-speed automatic but when driving the vehicle, it tells a totally different story. In short, the CX-5 is really underpowered and we found it hard to pull out the ponies for acceleration purposes.
The fault is with the SkyActiv technology which is too focused on keeping the CX-5 a fuel economic vehicle. However, the new system achieved just that as the CX-5 returns fuel consumption figures of up to 30mpg.
The SUV is fitted with a multipurpose steering that is extraordinary. Aside from its various functions, the wheel is very responsive and precise with every turning angle.
The CX-5 we tested retails at $30,030 and there is an option of picking up the Grand Touring Tech package. Doing so will add in more features to the CX-5 like navigation system, HID headlamps w/ auto leveling, adaptive front lighting, smart city brake support and so much more.
