Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC One X: Why One X Still Rocks

At the moment the Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of the most coveted of phones on the market and one of the highest pre-ordered Android devices. On the other hand the HTC One X is still selling very well, even with the S3 being on the market. But why might this be? Well if you take a look at the specifications of it you can see why.

HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy S3

Both of the handsets have a quad core processor but the One X was the first ever Android phone to do so. They both have Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) out of the box and have processors that are very similar in the US market. The international One X has 1GB or RAM and a 1.5GHz quad core processor. The S3 has a 1GB of RAM and a quad-core 1.4GHz processor. Both of the handsets in the US are fitted with the S4 Snapdragon dual core processors.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a Super AMOLED 4.8 inch screen with 306ppi and resolution of 1280 x 720. The One X has a Super IPS capacitive touchscreen of 4.7 inches. Both of the displays of the phone have Gorilla Glass. In daylight tests the screen of the HTC One X was the clearest. The S3 screen is Pentile, which did come with some disapproving remarks, and its Gorila Glass 2 technology was proven to not be as strong as even that of the iPhone 4S in a drop test.

The camera on both handsets are 8 megapixels and the HTC One X comes with LED flash, autofocus, video at 1080p and has a camera of 1.3 megapixels which shoots 720p video. The camera on the S3 comes with zero shutter lag, autofocus, image stabilization, and smile detection, geo tagging and 3264 x 2448 pixels. It also boasts a 1.9 megapixel camera. The camera on the One X has been heavily marketed as it has a custom image processing chip which is said to rival the one used in the iPhone 4S. HTC also boasts the many filters its stock camera has. Samsung on the other hands have not really marketed their camera, instead focusing more on the S features. Therefore many people believe that it is the same camera as on the previous model, the S2, while the HTC One X has something new over its predecessors.

On paper both handsets look equally matched. But as an added advantage the HTC One X has better availability than the S3 as there are shortages of the handset. So if you walk in to a store and hold a One X, it does look to be of a higher quality material than the plastic looking S3. It feels better in the hand that the S3 as well and looks more like a premium product than Samsung’s flagship.

So while the Samsung Galaxy S3 does have an edge over the HTC One X when you benchmark both devices, for the general consumer who handles both the devices in a store and reads the little specs board next to it, the One X looks as good (if not better) than an S3.
